I was reading the Washington Post the other day...

So,

I actually read the Post everyday.

So..... On Monday June 30 on the front page of the business section was a headline that read, "Google Enters ComScore's Turf." The word Google captured my attention. Apparently, Comscore is a small Reston, VA-based firm that provides web analytics services. Well, Google does the same thing. Should Comscore be scared? They say they are not because, "Google's main interest is to sell more display advertising rather than be in the audience measurement business." Comscore claims that they are a neutral third party provider with greater credibility and integrity in providing web analytics services than Google and the like.

Did anyone else read this great article?

This is actually something we are watching at work. Bottom line, Comscore is a neutral party that provides analysis of page views, etc. Many companies use Comscore to see how much to charge for ad space. Google, since they make pretty much all their revenue off search and ads, seems to be saying we don't believe Comscore's numbers therefore we will provide our own analysis and then charge ad space based on our numbers.

It's not as simple as that, but Comscore's stock dropped from a 27.69 on June 23 pre-Google announcement to 20.07 today. To paraphrase a great line from "History of the World, Part 1" - It's good to be Google.
